Sanjeeta K. Johal

Sanjeeta Johal was called to the Bar in 2006 after completing her J.D. at the University of British Columbia (Allard Hall) in 2005 and her B.A. at Simon Fraser University in 2002. Throughout her academic career, she received multiple awards, including entrance scholarships to both SFU and UBC Allard Hall.

After her call, Sanjeeta began her career at a boutique litigation firm in Vancouver before joining one of the largest litigation firms in Western Canada, where she practiced for 12 years alongside some of the province’s leading litigators. She later moved her practice to Surrey, managing the litigation department of a local firm for three years before founding Sanjeeta Johal Law Corporation in 2024.

Sanjeeta is a trial lawyer with a broad and sophisticated litigation practice. She represents clients in a wide range of Supreme Court commercial, business, and general civil matters, including:

  • Contract disputes
  • Real estate litigation (commercial and residential; breach of contract and breach of trust claims)
  • Foreclosure proceedings (for both lenders and borrowers)
  • Shareholder disputes (oppression claims, director liability)
  • Construction law and builders lien matters
  • Commercial lease disputes
  • Residential tenancy disputes (judicial reviews)

She has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia and has extensive experience with pre-trial negotiation, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution.

  • Panesar v. Sidhu, 2022 BCCA 397
  • Azam v. Andrews Custom Furniture Designs Inc., 2022 BCSC 1166

Beyond her litigation practice, Sanjeeta is deeply engaged in the legal community through her work with the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch). She serves on the Executive of the General Practice, Solo, and Small Firm Section, is a member of the Advisory Committee to the Judicial Council and is a section representative on the CBABC Provincial Council.

Sanjeeta is also strongly committed to mentoring the next generation of lawyers and she has contributed her time in many ways over the years—judging the mock civil trial component of the Professional Legal Training Course, the UBC First Year Moots, and the Barry Sullivan Law Cup; mentoring through the CBABC Women’s Legal Forum; and serving as an Alumni Personal Profile Reader at UBC. She has also shared her experience through teaching litigation skills workshops for upper-year law students at Thompson Rivers University Law School and presenting at professional development seminars for the insurance industry in Calgary and Vancouver.
